Middlesex County resident Luis Morales, age 29, of Lowell, was apprehended by state police in an apartment on Pawtucket Boulevard in Lowell on Tuesday, Sept. 28.

Earlier this month the state police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section began assisting Lawrence Police in locating Morales, who was wanted on six separate warrants, including two for armed robbery and related firearms charges, said the state police.

After Morales fled an attempt to arrest him this morning in Charlton, police developed information that he had possibly made his way to the greater Lowell area to which he has ties.

Surveillance was initiated with Lowell PD detectives at possible locations and Morales was ultimately identified as a passenger in a vehicle.

Law enforcement followed the vehicle while awaiting the arrival of additional officers. When several Lowell marked units arrived, officers attempted to place Morales in custody.

The vehicle fled and Lowell officers pursued a short distance before calling off the pursuit for safety reasons.

The vehicle was quickly located in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 1359 Pawtucket Blvd., in Lowell.

Witnesses observed Morales and the driver fled into the building and state police agents had knowledge that he had an associate in Apartment 24.

A perimeter was established around the property and at Apartment 24 as officers awaited the arrival of tactical assets.

Before their arrival, Morales exited Apartment 24 and was placed under arrest without further incident.

He was charged with numerous crimes including:

  • Possession of a large-capacity firearm
  • Possession of firearm
  • Possession of ammunition
  • Assault and battery on a police officer
  • Resisting arrest
  • Several counts of armed robbery
  • Firearm use in a felony
  • Failure to stop for police
  • Receiving stolen property

Additional charges are pending on at least six warrants. He was not wanted for attempted murder as police had earlier reported.
